Support the International Yearbook for Research in Arts Education

The International Network for Research in Arts Education (INRAE) has launched an Indiegogo campaign to help fund its 4th Yearbook featuring important studies from around the world. INRAE is committed to a vision of education in which the arts play a central and critically important role.

Research has shown that:  The arts in education can be used to construct knowledge in other domains of learning; The arts can promote embodied learning;· The arts can effect significant transformation in a young person’s life; Arts education can positively impact personal wellbeing; The arts are a powerful venue in which young people can construct and maintain identity; Arts education has potential to facilitate social cohesion and community building; Arts education can contribute to the goals of multiculturalism.

Since 2009 INRAE has supported research in arts education by holding 6 international conferences and publishing 3 highly acclaimed Yearbooks.  They are now ready to produce our 4th Yearbook featuring important studies from around the world.

Why is research in arts education so important?  Because without solid research, educational authorities who are committed to evidence based decision making will find it difficult to commit valuable resources to learning in the arts.  Because improving quality in arts education requires in-depth study of the practice of exemplary teachers.  Because only through research will we know where the arts are being taught in the world, by whom, and with what resources.  Because all young people have a right to explore their cultural heritage and to exercise their creativity. Research has a major role to play in making high quality arts education accessible to all children and youth.

The articles have been written.  The editing is well underway.  The Yearbook will be ready for the publisher very soon. They now need funding to cover the basic cost of publication and invite supporters to help achieve this goal by contributing to their crowdfunding campaign.
