Confronting a crisis in arts and learning

The arts and learning sector is facing a crisis of frightening proportions.  Over the past three months, hundreds of artists, educators and organizations from across the country have told us that anti-virus measures have devastated their world, not only by disrupting programs during the pandemic but, long term, by threatening to eliminate the arts completely from post-pandemic school programming while also limiting the capacity of artist educators to rebuild their communities.  Many see digital technology as an important element in their planning for recovery.

To kick off International Arts Education Week, we are officially launching an endorsement campaign for our Call to Action on Arts Education. COVID-19 has devastated the arts and learning sector, threatening to push the arts completely out of post-pandemic school programming while limiting the impact of the sector on broader community revival. Your endorsement will help our advocacy efforts as we seek to sustain and grow arts and learning in an emerging new normal.

Navigating arts and learning through a global crisis: Lessons learned and obstacles encountered. The Canadian Network for Arts & Learning is pleased to announce a second series of online roundtable discussions for arts and learning practitioners to share the realities they are facing after two months of social distancing and other emergency measures enacted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We invite everyone to take part in the exchange as we discuss what you have learned during this period of isolation, what you foresee as the "new normal" in your practice, how you are faring with the gradual measures to re-open society, and other topics. We also hope to learn from you how The Canadian Network for Arts & Learning can further support the work that you are doing, and the sector as a whole to ensure an stronger future for arts and learning in the digital age.
