EVOLVE 2020: Looking Back, Moving Forward will honour and celebrate the important contributions to drama and dance education in Ontario from the past fifty years. It will also look forward to new innovations, ideas, and practices that will take us into an exciting artistic future. This inspiring theme generates room for artists and educators to create engaging and innovative presentations that honour the fifty-year evolution of CODE in the following areas:

Revisiting the Masters

New takes on “classic” approaches to drama and dance, such as story drama and creative movement. Offerings could include: focus on well-known practitioners such as Booth, Heathcote, Laban, Graham, Shakespeare, Boal etc.)

New Innovations in Drama and Dance

Forward-thinking approaches to drama and dance such as STEAM, technology, brain research, global competencies, project-based and inquiry learning.

Indigeneity and the Arts

Best practices for honouring the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action through drama and dance education. Done by or in partnership with Indigenous elders, artists, and knowledge-keepers.

Exploring Language through Drama and Dance

The role of drama and dance in language learning, including extended French, French Immersion, or English Language Learning.

Productive Artist-Teacher Partnerships

Explorations of collaborative practice and projects between classroom educators and artist-educators.

Drama and Dance in Alternative Settings

Drama and dance beyond the classroom such as applied theatre, trauma-informed arts practice, and site-specific artistic work
