Art Downtown is Vancouver’s public eco-arts festival – a sixteen week, free, community-oriented event where artists, performers and audiences deepen their connections to each other on the beautiful Coast Salish landscape. Our home, downtown Vancouver, is illuminated with an animated celebration of environmental and social justice inspired art and performance, produced by Vancouver Visual Art Foundation, a non-profit society.
The program objectives are to recognize and strengthen the role of artists in our communities and to increase public participation and engagement in arts and culture. Art Downtown intends to activate downtown Vancouver neighbourhoods, communities and public spaces by being accessible and inviting for culturally diverse and disabled audiences, while strengthening community connections and celebrating Vancouver’s diversity.
Artists will be painting onsite and conducting live art demonstrations in the open air, showcasing their artwork to the public from a covid safe distance. Live musical performances by local singers and musicians are also part of this event.
The outdoor summer program is located at 595 Burrard on the Bentall Centre plaza, Tuesdays and Thursdays and at Lot 19, 855 West Hastings between the Terminal City Club and the Vancouver club plaza, starting on June 15th and running until September 30th.
