01:34:56 VCAC: I'm SHeri from VCAC. Would like to share 01:35:52 Calvin Dyck: Performance Idea: 01:35:56 kera: Hi - Kera McHugh, Community Engagement Director from Comox Valley Arts - nothing particularly new to add just now so will just listen until something comes up that I can contribute to. 01:37:01 Calvin Dyck: Performance idea: On Friday we put on a flash mob performance in the parking lot of the local Care Home. We stood 2 meters apart and residents opened their windows and sat on their balconies to enjoy the concert. 01:37:14 kera: <3 beautiful, Calvin! 01:37:17 Lisa Zavitz: I am Lisa Zavitz President of the Columbia Valley Arts Council and would be interested in sharing. We are at this point collecting data and seeing how we can support our artist community in the Columbia Valley via an on-line platform. 01:38:03 Larry O'Farrell: Thanks Lisa. 01:38:11 Judith: I have another mtg at 11 but have one suggestion to share if possible. 01:38:27 kera: :) we did that too! 30-day drawing challenge... it's been well received as we do that annually already so this is round 2 for us this year. 01:38:36 Calvin Dyck: Abbotsford Music Festival looking at a way to go ahead with the May event with 300 registrants. We are proposing that students upload a Utube video of their performance for "adjudication only" 01:38:42 Larry O'Farrell: Ok. We will slip you in. 01:39:28 Calvin Dyck: My string quartet was supposed to do a Good Friday performance of "7 Last Words" and we are planning to record tomorrow - and then "live-stream" the performance on Good Friday. 01:40:50 Calvin Dyck: Teaching on-line is challenging due to lack of quality from Skype and Google Hangouts. But exploring possibility of students doing selfie videos of their pieces for evaluation by coaches. 01:40:51 kera: here's what one of our artists whipped together... please share it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6HvHJ3H_J0U 01:42:01 Canadian Network For Arts and Learning: www.icasc.ca 01:42:30 hilag: I found that teaching acting, rehearsing a play, even doing physical theatre is possible through Zoom (naturally, with modifications). The main challenge with Zoom is synchronizing sound. So singing together doesn't work very well. 01:44:11 kera: sorry, have to get onto another zoom call... will look forward to the recording to hear what comes up.. thank you for hosting this opportunity for sharing ideas & challenges. 01:44:33 Lisa Zavitz: The Columbia Valley Arts Council cancelled all our programs and events to the end May.However we will be develop online programs and events. We are seeing this as an opportunity to further engage with the artist community and update our web-site. 01:49:24 maryhartman: I’m sorry I have to leave for another meeting. Thank you all for sharing your current situation, your strategies and ideas. I look forward to seeing the recording of the remainder of the call. The arts are all about community, and I have no doubt we’ll all continue to build, support, and nurture community. I wish you all the very best. 01:49:49 VCAC: Our #VernonArtsChallenge is being well received on Facebook, Instagram, and through email. Engaging with people has really lifted my spirtis as I work from home, and it's helping our communities stay positive. The first challenge we posted was to get people to create hearts and put them on their windows. People all over our province are doing it and seeing the benefits. (we didn't initiate this particular challenge so we don't take credit). 01:49:51 Laura Barron: Thanks to Monique for being willing to share her vulnerability. I know so many of us can relate to her concerns for elder family members. Also, thank you to Larry for making space to share personal emotions and not just work concerns. So important. 01:51:16 Arlene Overman: Thank you! I need to dash to some 01:51:21 Judith: icasc.ca 01:52:02 Arlene Overman: previously scheduled lessons. Thanks for the network 01:52:10 Judith: Have to leave. Sending virtual hugs to all. 01:52:19 Juliana: This goes to all of you! https://madmimi.com/s/708e601 01:52:53 Laura Barron: I received the VCAC ask for posting a heart on your window and have already done that. Sweet idea. 01:56:33 kevanellis: I have to leave the meeting, but I wish you all the best and thanks you so much for providing this platform to connect. 02:04:39 hilag: Monetary wise - signing up/watching the piece by donation, also - encouraging people to donate to the organization if the piece/event is free. 02:07:30 hilag: I wonder if there is a way of getting sponsorships from businesses that make profit our of the crisis (e.g. TP companies?) 02:08:06 VCAC: Indirectly, as the Arts Council of the North Okanagan, we're hoping to help create some monetary avenues for local artists by featuring them on our social channels and directing people to their pages and websites. We can only hope that people might contact the visual artists, musicians and performers directly for sales, to give a musician a tip on a live performance or to set up future connections. 02:12:07 Juliana: Thanks everyone! I have to leave now. I look forward to listening to the last part of the recording when it is available. 02:17:43 Monique Hurteau: agree wholeheartedly 02:17:49 VCAC: Great suggestions Larry. Sharing eachothers events, performances, etc on social costs us nothing, but can be really helpful to increase our reach and provide that connection and support also. I also agree with Rojia that it's too soon to have some great solutions but as we adjust and problem solve, I would love to see this forum continue. We might have great idas to share in another week or month or so. 02:17:52 Kaitlyn: https://www.eduarts.ca/resources-for-the-arts-and-learning-sector-during-the-covid-19-pandemic 02:18:06 Emily Hope: Does CNAL have a Slack channel that we could all join? 02:19:04 Laura Barron: Continuing with Larry’s point, we enjoyed the BC Ballet’s performance on line last Saturday, and for a greater sense of community we kept a friend on FaceTime as we watched together. We even dressed up, and drank wine as we watched, and this alternative form of experiencing performance was very heart warming. 02:21:56 David Diamond: If anyone wants to watch any of Theatre for Living (Headlines Theatre)’s MainStage shows many toured across Western Canada and all of these broadcast globally as live, interactive events, they are here: scroll down. http://www.theatreforliving.com/video_and_sound.htm 02:22:09 dominiquedenis: Following this chat from the wings (I am the CNAL French translator) and finding it most useful, both in practical terms and in human terms. In my own practice (in Toronto), I teach a French-language conversation course based on the study of songs, and one opportunity that has arisen as a result of this crisis has been to move away from the spoken word to focus more on the written word (including grammar). It has opened a whole new avenue for both me and my students. Just saying this to suggest that new and useful ideas can arise out of a very real constraint. 02:22:12 David Diamond: They are free, btw 02:23:50 jimbrompton: Thanks to all of you for the information. If this organization can make contact with the federal government to make sure the Artists in Canada do not fall through the cracks. We are business owners that do not pay into Unemployment insurance. 02:24:08 Kaitlyn: if anyone would like to share resources or anything else, feel free to email me at kaitlyn.bois@eduarts.ca 02:25:00 VCAC: Thank you CNAL for creating this platform. We wish you all well! 02:25:09 Emily Hope: Thank you all!
