Guest Speaker: Dr. Cathy Miyata - Laurier Faculty of Education

Together we will explore how this ancient art form connects us as human beings; how it can be used as a teaching tool; how we use narrative to guide and reshape our lives; and finally, how it is recognized as a powerful research approach.

Cathy Miyata has been a professional storyteller for over 30 years. She has facilitated hundreds of workshops and courses in storytelling to teachers, business people, storytellers, academics, and even used it to entertain children of all ages. Her telling has taken her to Serbia, Mexico, the United States, Portugal, Sweden, Malaysia, across Canada, into many Indigenous Communities, and several times to Egypt, Germany and Japan. She enjoys collecting stories, creates stories, and now in her academic life, she uses it as a powerful research approach.
