Art Kits 

With in-person programming cancelled last spring, Graffiti Art Programming took their workshops and bundled them into art kits! Each kit follows a theme, explores different materials, and prompts youth to get creative wherever they are. Art kits include an activity booklet and the supplies needed to follow along with each activity. GAP has assembled and distributed thousands of kits to youth and community members through schools, daycares, community organizations, mailbox drops and door-to-door delivery. The art kit project is ongoing, and always growing. We have used kits to support in-person community projects such as an interactive sidewalk mural and a neighbourhood mural scavenger hunt, both of which were accompanied by a colouring book activity kit. Pairing kits with larger projects has allowed individuals to safely participate and connect with art in their communities, in person as well as at home. 

Flora House Sidewalk Mural Project Description: 

Over the course of multiple weeks, Cree/Saulteaux/Ukrainian artist, Annie Beach, worked with a group of youth at one of the Graffiti Art Programming st.ART sites, Flora House. The artist with the youth, on hot sunny days, had the chance to paint the parking pad in their backyard. The mural painted on the parking pad coincided with the colouring pages we made for accompanying art kits, with various bugs and insects, and their names translated into Cree, to encourage Indigenous language revitalization. The mural painting not only referenced these various insects, but was a mural designed to leave room for the youth of Flora House to colour in the mural with sidewalk chalk in their own time, again and again with every summer rainfall.
