Lauren begins each portrait by getting to know her subjects and exploring ideas for the piece with them. Once she has established a general vision, she takes a series of photographs -- often combining elements from several photos to create the best composition. She works with dilute acrylics on paper or canvas, applying multiple layers of transparent colour to create the luminosity that is characteristic of her paintings. This exploration of light coupled with her fascination for surface textures and details results in pieces that are emotionally vibrant and intellectually satisfying.
Born in California and a resident of Victoria, British Columbia, Lauren is largely self-taught. Her works are held in private collections in Canada and the US. They have been featured in juried shows in California and British Columbia, including the BC Festival of the Arts and the Federation of Canadian Artists.
