Marion Evamy

“I dream of big, bold colours - and possess immense delight for mystery and intrigue, after all, the heart seeks variety, and variety is the spice of life.” - me!

Marion Evamy is inspired by imperfection and exaggeration. With a compulsion to present the unexpected with both strength and emotion, and to capture that indescribable feeling that lives within us all, her work is fraught with tension and unexpected twists that keep her audience guessing. Both figurative and abstract, Marion’s pieces are most notable for evoking these intense moods and emotions, often translating a story that demands our attention, pulling us deeper into the piece. Part of the appeal for Marion in her working process is capturing that sense of possibility, the feeling of delight, and discovery. She strives for a sense of history and mystery, of things revealed and concealed, sometimes simultaneously. The balance between light and dark, color and mood, exposure and subtlety, is central to Marion’s work.

After receiving her B.A. in Psychology, Marion went on to feature in many galleries and fine art shows across Canada, receiving multiple awards including, Show Designers Choice, Best in Show, and Best on Canvas, going on to receive her Master Status Designation from the Sidney Fine Art Show in 2013. In 1998, Marion established Pup Art Studios, and began to immortalize dogs as bold, contemporary works of art, commissioning over 900 pieces since first launch. She continued on to open and operate Red Art Gallery in 2011, representing 25 Canadian artists, where her work still is featured today.

Marion believes that art is as much about diversion, as it is about focus or planning, choosing not to organize her paints, materials, or thoughts, but simply seeks the inspiration of the random, using a playful and fresh approach to set her own ideals of the human form.As such her “fictional” portraits and figures consist of anything from a face with strong shadows and etched lines, to a mysterious confluence of marks and brush strokes. Though some may call it a lack of focus, it is truly an exploration of the freedom to explore the unpredictable, creating works of art that transverse genre and mood, escaping the laws of uniformity.

Summary:

Marion is an award-winning fine art painter. Her bold figurative and abstract works are mysterious and intriguing, signed with her initials M.E. followed by an exclamation mark. “I use my initials as my signature–the exclamation mark is my philosophy that life should be lived as an exclamation, not an explanation.”
