Bill Porteous graduated from the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles with a Master of Fine Arts and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting and Lithography. He now lives and works in Victoria BC, Canada.
Inspired by the Abstract Expressionist’s sense of art as a transcendent, oblique and celebratory language, Porteous’s latest series of paintings blends innovations in paint applications with the inherent poetic form of abstraction.
Although his paintings form the core of his artistic output, Porteous has been in a dynamic relationship between his art in the public domain and his studio work rooted in abstract painting. One has fed the other in terms of creative approach and in their aspiration to inspire and evoke a deeply felt experience of unity.
