Even though he possesses the radiance of a poet, the exuberance of a storyteller and the mysterious formula of a magician, Carol Benoit remains quietly unassuming. He is in the language of color and form, requiring more than a flick of the magic wand to make his work appear. Carol Benoit in fact sees himself as an enchanter, or more precisely as an artist within sight into the fantastic world of the imaginary. This creator’s beguiling artistry defines itself by striving to deform the formal, scoffing at traditionalist conventions, contradicting our recognation of banal reality and indeed challenging our exceptations. The superimposed and juxtaposed backgrounds and foregrounds reveal a depth that provokes the eye’s curiosity. Our perception is confused by perspectives that multiply our points of view. The interwoven guiding lines carry the eyes along in the pursuit of an elusive moment, an unending story, a page yet to turned. Caught in this caper, the viewer is delighted to find himself wandering like a nomad in the depths of his own imagination
