Derek obtained a Honours Bachelor of Music Degree in 1998 from Lakehead University, and has been teaching piano privately from his own studio since 1987. As a performer, Derek has performed in all of Thunder Bay's Chamber music series, collaborating with vocalists and instrumentalists. He has been recorded on a CD entitled "First Recording" produced by New Music North, part of which was broadcast on CBC Radio Two's The Signal. Derek is the Executive Director for Conservatory Canada. In addition to music, Derek is currently studying Craniosacral Therapy through the Upledger Institute. As a piano teacher, Derek incorporates technology into his studio and holds regular recreational music making jam sessions with his students.
