When Behrouz Boochani, Kurdish-Iranian human rights activist/journalist/writer was in the Australian-run offshore refugee detention camp, in Manus Island, Papua New Guinea he secretly wrote around one hundred articles and a book and made a film all on his smartphone: the multi award-winning book No Friend but the Mountains: Writing from Manus Prison and the critically acclaimed co-directed film “Chauka, Please Tell Us the Time” (with Arash Kamali Sarvestani). Through writing and art he was able to share his harrowing story with the world.

MOVING FORWARD: How we made music during covid

Join us for critical conversations regarding a full return to music-making post-pandemic. Participants will take ideas and inspiration from successful models that follow public health measures, and ensure positive and safe performance environments for students.

Arts Ahead is an annual symposium coordinated by the Post-Graduate Arts Management Program at Centennial College, featuring workshops, panels, networking opportunities, and meaningful discussions between arts professionals, students, and patrons of the arts. In the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, this year we’re asking the arts and culture sector to look inwards and evaluate how to best take care of ourselves and each other. As the first ever virtual edition of Arts Ahead, we’re expanding our event to provide 2 days of engaging programming.

Regional Dialogue Sessions: CCNC offers Canada’s culture workers the opportunity to connect  within their region ahead of a second year of COVID-19 sector impact.

New ideas and collaborations for Building Digital Bridges to connect older adults to arts, culture and creativity - COVID and beyond.

About this Event

Previously planned as an onsite event, the Age Friendly Network Meeting and Arts and Culture Symposium were cancelled due to the March COVID lock down. This new virtual event is a response to COVID-19 hosted by Museum London, co-sponsored by London Area Creative Age Network with special funding extensions provided by the Ontario Seniors Community Grant Program.

Our theme “CREATIVE SYNERGY” focuses on innovative partnerships, contemporary Arts practice, inspiring online solutions for virtual Visual and Media Arts classrooms, and the celebration of authentic voices & diverse perspectives. We are hosting a Panel Discussion: Culturally Relevant Conversations for K-12 Educators with Audrey Hudson from the Art Gallery of Ontario as the moderator.

There are many sessions for all divisions:

The Saskatchewan Music Conference (SMC) is going virtual!

Due to COVID-19, the SMC organizing committee has made the difficult decision to move the conference online this year. While we are disappointed that we won't be able to gather together in person, we are excited by the opportunities that will be afforded by an online format.

​Regardless of the venue, SMC will remain the ultimate creative venue for developing musicians and furthering professional development opportunities for music professionals, volunteers, students and educators in the province!
