Les arts et la santé mentale chez les jeunes

Dans les différentes sociétés et pratiques culturelles à travers le monde, les arts sont liés à la santé et au bien-être. Cette affirmation est clairement étayée par les expériences vécues des personnes qui créent de l’art, ainsi que par la recherche. Arts and Youth and Mental Health

The arts are linked to health and well-being in cultural practices and societies around the world. In addition to the lived experience of those people making art, research supports this assertion. The impacts of the arts on youth mental health are particularly striking. As Dr. Tiina Kukkonen states,

Better mental health — not skill — made my students successful.

My Drama students love musical theatre. They’re constantly singing bits from modern pieces, reenacting favourite scenes, and begging me to direct a school-wide musical theatre production. With COVID-19 restrictions lifting and interest at an all-time high, I decided to bite the bullet and do what I had never done before — produce and direct a musical.

On November 30th, The Canadian Network for Arts & Learning, in partnership with Arts Can Teach released a report on the impact of multicultural arts and artists in elementary schools. The report was an analysis of a project funded by a $61,000 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation where Arts Can Teach hired and trained multicultural artists to work with teachers in elementary schools in the Greater Essex County District School Board.

Windsor, ON – The Canadian Network for Arts & Learning in partnership with Arts Can Teach has released a report detailing the results of a project integrating multicultural arts instruction into teaching core curriculum in the Windsor, Ontario – a unique community which has the highest percentage per capita of newcomers to Canada.
