As part of the Wise Voices for Music program, the Coalition for Music Education is conducting research with respect to the state of music education in Ontario. The information gathered in these questionnaires will be used to shape the Coalition’s advocacy efforts and develop province-wide strategies and priorities. The Coalition will be sharing the results with the Ontario Music Educators Association and presenting our findings at a symposium dedicated to the outcomes of the Wise Voices for Music program in the Fall.

As part of a 2-day chamber music retreat, two young professional string quartets, mentored by the award-winning Afiara quartet, will workshop dynamic new programs that bring together classical music and other genres, before kicking off a casual chamber music reading session.

Lewis Carroll’s immortal children’s story Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland has long fascinated not just generations of children and readers, but artists in other disciplines. Its irresistible blend of whimsical, fantastical characters and wildly outrageous narrative along with the slyly knowing, subversive strain in its makeup has always attracted the interest of everyone from filmmakers to philosophers. Choreographers are no exception. And in Christopher Wheeldon, the Carroll classic has undoubtedly found its ideal choreographic interpreter.

A new report, published by Arts for Health (Manchester Metropolitan University) on Thursday 12 February 2015, reveals that engaging with the arts and culture generally has a positive long-term effect on health and wellbeing.

This study draws together different strands of research into the impacts of music making on the development of children and young people. Professor Susan Hallam, explores intellectual, social and personal development and the ways involvement in music making can support and influence growth and development.
