Violinist Sarah Westwick and pianist Stephen Smith present a thoughtful programme that brings together a rarely heard work and a familiar Romantic cornerstone. Central to the recital is the second sonata by Dora Pejačević, the nineteenth-century Croatian composer, pianist, and violinist whose music is still seldom encountered in concert halls. Richly crafted and emotionally direct, the sonata, names "the Slavic",  reveals a distinctive voice from the late Romantic era and offers listeners a chance to encounter a composer beyond the standard repertoire.

VUCAVU x Momenta Biennale of Contemporary Art presents "Underneath Big Skies", a online video screening program available from April 28 to May 12, 2026.

Curated by Mariana Muñoz Gomez, this project brings together emerging and established artists whose works explore the relationships between human beings, environments, and territories. As part of the Biennale’s parallel initiatives, it highlights the diversity of current contemporary practices.

The two Toronto-based Kurdish artist guests, Kazim Boran, Saz (Baglama) and Hezil, vocals, will join Dilan Ensemble, directed by the Kurdish-Canadian kamānche player, composer and singer Shahriyar Jamshidi, to resonate songs from various parts of Kurdistan in their trio concert at Annette Studios. With the power of improvisation rooted in Kurdish traditions, they can cross the boundaries of musical genres and create a spontaneous musical momentum that penetrates from the soul of the musicians to the heart and soul of the listeners.

In the Arctic North, Sea Ice is synonymous with the sand in the desert. The ice is vital for transportation, for food, for living. And while the temperatures seem inhumane, the Arctic is teeming with life. Indigenous tribes call this frosty land home, but they’re not alone. Polar bears, musk ox, whales, and caribou are some of the arctic animals co-existing with more than 40 different ethnic groups in the north.
