WST is a non-profit company (founded in 2006) devoted to creating and developing original Canadian and International contemporary musicals, produced in an intimate setting.

Our goals are to entertain and to educate, combining a mix of traditional and experimental theatre, where creativity can flourish and artists of different disciplines can collaborate.

WST provides community service and outreach to various organizations as well as offers mentorship and educational programs (Studio Works Academy/Made in Manitoba Masterclasses) in order to nurture professional and emerging Manitoba talent.

    Director Brenda Gorlick has three decades of experience working as an artist in the schools. She works in conjunction with the school to create a program which serves the students and curriculum.

    Brenda Gorlick is available to work as an “in-house” choreographer on school productions including musicals, concerts and special events.

  • Out-of-School Time

    After- school musical theatre and dance training is available upon request.

    WST offers field trips for schools to attend their annual theatre productions.

Made in Manitoba virtual Masterclass series

Winnipeg Studio Theatre is proud to present the first Made in Manitoba virtual Masterclass series – Musical Theatre Edition!

Under the direction of Brenda Gorlick and Kayla Gordon, WST Co-directors - this twelve-session program features top musical theatre artists from Manitoba who now perform and create for the world stage.

The roster includes artists Andrea Macasaet - newly-minted Broadway star of Six the Musical, Nyk Bielak – Lead performer in the Australian company of Book of Mormon, current Associate Artistic Director of Shaw Festival - Kimberley Rampersad, Mary Antonini, Jaz Sealey and Alexandra Frohlinger of Broadway shows - The Prom, Aladdin and Hello Dolly respectively, stage and screen actor – Markian Tarasiuk, Music Director at Sheridan College - Joseph Tritt, Joshua LeClair, fresh from the Matilda world tour, Kathleen Moore from the “Oz” company of Come From Away, Samantha Jeanne Hill of Broadway’s Les Miserables and The Phantom of the Opera and seasoned veteran of Broadway, Vegas and Guthrie stages – Andrea Mislan.

The sessions, divided into 3 age groups Junior (age 10-13), Intermediate (age 14-17) and Adult (18+) cover all aspects of musical theatre performance – from training, auditions, acting, singing and dance technique for the professional stage. Each live Zoom session includes instruction as well as a Q & A with our guest faculty.

Brenda Gorlick, who created this project articulates: “Winnipeg Studio Theatre is offering an incredible interactive experience in a digitalized setting for all ages, which has never been done before. The quality of the ‘Made in Manitoba’ faculty is stellar, and we are so proud and excited to have them back leading 12 workshops spanning all areas of theatre training”.

Performing arts instructors are eligible to attend as Auditors for the 36 sessions in order to gain insight into the “best practices” and current training styles of the musical theatre genre.
