Some Assembly’s mission is to build community, awareness, dialogue and wellness through high-quality theatre productions that foster appreciation for the arts while educating the public about social issues. Some Assembly provides accessible arts opportunities through its mentorship programs involving youth working in collaboration with professional artists on the creation, production and performance of plays that address issues facing youth and promote positive social change.

  • Theatre

    Acting, Creative Dramatics, Improv, Musical Theatre, Playwriting, Stage Management, Storytelling, Technical Theatre, Theatre Production, Theatre for Social Causes / Identity

  • Field Trips

    Schools are invited to attend the free performances of the play and participate in the Q&A discussions following each performance.

  • Resources

    Schools are given information about opportunities for students to participate with professional artists in all facets of theatre production. Vancouver Coastal Health provide youth health and wellness resource brochures. Counsellors are in attendance and support audience members if required.

  • In-School Workshops

    Script research workshops take place in classrooms to facilitate dialogue about play topics. Interviews with students are filmed and used as resource material in script writing workshops. Select content may be incorporated in the multi-media aspect of the production. Post show workshops take place in school classrooms that attended the performance. Dialogue is facilitated about play content.

  • Performances

    The plays that are created by youth in collaboration with professional artists are performed free for audience members at the Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre in Vancouver, British Columbia the first week of May during BC Youth Week.

  • Workshops

    Youth are welcome to participate in Some Assembly's annual seven month projects as writers, performers, musicians, design and backstage assistants, script advisors and to assist with script research. Workshops take place between September and April.
