Lindsey White

Connection is at the core of a groovy folk-rock sound that is the heartbeat of all music created by Lindsey White and her community. Her soulful compositions are complimented by earthy piano and guitar, powerful vocals and unmistakable passion. The result is an intersection of straight forward groove and complex balladry with a rich, informed lyrical landscape underpinned by hope. Her sound has been described as “the lovechild of Regina Spektor and Florence and The Machine”.

White established herself in the Winnipeg music scene early on as a passionate, expressive voice and an honest, thoughtful songwriter. She went on to create and facilitate community music programming that meets people of all ages where they are at. This work landed her a nomination for a Winnipeg Arts Council “Making a Mark” award, four “Women of Influence” Canadian Women Entrepreneur award nominations and a designation as one of the CBC Manitoba Future 40.

It is White’s insightful and forthright approach that results in a sense of trust and relatedness for listeners, co-creators and observers of her work. Whether on stage or in session, she is able to weave memories and learnings in a way that turns adversity into awareness while leaving all feeling more understood.

The Renegade album (2015) told a raw story of bold self discovery through the love and loss of her father. It was released with a companion book of poetry, prose and other writings and included songs ranging from alternative and punk guitar rockers to the most delicate and heartbreaking bare-souled piano.

In 2018 “The Garrison (Music and Arts)” invited Winnipeg to come over and play. Initially the brainchild of late, local musician BJ Garrison, this program provided a creative outlet for arts engagement and musical education in a safe space where people of all backgrounds could be welcome, safe, respected and experimentally expressive. This served to establish a creative community from a wide variety of programs, practices, age groups.

Throughout years of performances and community sessions, White has rounded out a sound that is at once entirely her own while also belonging to all who answer her call to connect. Wild and carefully orchestrated. As intimate as it is immense. The live energy of this duality is emphasized by a band of seasoned musicians: Mitch Dorge (drums), Joe Curtis (guitar) and Alasdair Dunlop (bass). Together they have been developing new music toward a forthcoming project (TBA) with fresh songs that tell an entirely different story.
