Joanne Sawatzky

Joanne Sawatzky grew up in Vancouver and graduated from UBC with a Special Education Teaching Degree. Now retired after teaching for 30 years, Joanne sees art as her new avenue for growth and discovery. Currently Joanne resides in Kitsilano, Vancouver.
Many of Joannes paintings reflect Vancouver. Joanne believes there is a great amount of beauty and history in the “old” Vancouver and she likes to share this view with others. Joanne explores Vancouver with her camera and uses these images to create compositions that have meaning to her.
Local artist, friend and mentor Ken West has had a huge influence on Joanne’s art journey. Joanne has also taken coursework at Emily Carr.
Joanne’s style can be described as realism and her medium is acrylic on canvas. She has been successfully juried into the Federation of Canadian Artist’s 2015 Icon show, where her piece False Creek Ferry won honourable mention, the 2016 Airs show and recently in Crossing Boundaries 2017.
