Etelka Nyilasi is a composer, transcriber, teacher and performer currently based in Edmonton. Originally from Hamilton, Ontario, she obtained her Bachelor of Music in 2006 from Wilfrid Laurier University where she studied composition with Linda C. Smith and Dr. Glenn Buhr, violin with Dr. Jeremy Bell and chamber music with the members of the Penderecki String Quartet.
Etelka is an experienced teacher of violin, viola, piano, theory and musicianship. She is available to provide lessons to students of all ages and abilities. Her background includes extensive training in Kodály musicianship and pedagogy from the Kodály Institute in Kecskemét (Hungary) and the British Kodály Academy. In addition, she is progressing through her Colourstrings violin teacher qualifications, having completed Levels 1 and 2a under the tutelage of Géza Szilvay and Yvonne Frye.
Previous teaching positions include the Birmingham Conservatoire Junior Department (UK), and Solihull Music Service (UK). She currently teaches privately in Edmonton, AB (Canada), at Resonate Music School, and at the Alberta Music Academy.
