I started my working life in Ottawa at the federal public service after completing a degree in political science. After a few years, I returned to university and completed my B.Mus and M.Mus. Since completing my M.Mus, I have blended music, teaching and arts administration in a variety of roles. From 1999 to 2012, I was a sessional instructor in voice and music appreciation at the University of Alberta’s Campus Saint-Jean. In 2006, I also joined the School of Music at Concordia University of Edmonton’s as a voice instructor, and in 2008 took on the role of Manager of the School of Music, and in 2014, Program Coordinator. In 2016, I took on the General Manager role at Pro Coro Canada, Edmonton’s professional choir, an ensemble I had sang with since 2001, and was its Executive Director from 2017 to 2019. From August 2020 to March 2022, I joined the Collaborative Radically Integrated Performers in Edmonton (CRIPSiE) team as its first General Manager. I have also been on the board of the Edmonton Arts Council from 2018 to 2024. I continue to act as a consultant to artists and non-profit associations.
As a singer, I’ve been heard as a soloist throughout Canada and on the CBC. I have also been presenting my cabaret Brie, Baguette and a Broad for 20 years with my friend and colleague, pianist Roxanne Classen and have appeared in eight different Edmonton Fringe shows. I have taught voice for 30 years, and my students are active singers in the community, and many have continued their vocal studies in classical voice and musical theatre in post-secondary institutions across Canada and the United States. I made my conducting debut with the Edmonton Metropolitan Chorus Women’s Chamber Ensemble in 2023 and conducted two more of the Chamber Ensemble concerts in 2024. I am an active adjudicator in voice, choir, musical theatre, and speech and am a member of the Canadian Music Festival Adjudicators Association, the Alberta Registered Teachers Association, the National Association of Teachers of Singing and is an Affiliate member of the Association for Body Mapping Education.
