Anne Rector

I began painting and photography at a very early age, shortly thereafter picking up a pen. First B&W photographs were taken overseas at 7 years old – my initial subjects, zoo animals. I soon graduated to pocket cameras; my parent’s YASHICA, and an early SX70 – recording much of my youth as I grew. Born on Prince Edward Island, raised in New Brunswick, with studies at Dalhousie University, Halifax, NS, our Maritimes are my childhood home – their influences resonate still. My youth included residence in Alberta, Germany, and Scotland, with our Air Force family settling in Quinte by the late 1970’s. As a young adult, my parent’s gift of a Canon AL-1 sparked a new level of interest, serving me well until my purchase of a Canon EOS Rebel Ti in 2005. Studying basics of photography at Loyalist College (B&W Photography I & II) during the 1980’s, I fine-tuned use of light and further honed skills. Throughout my administrative career in politics – art, in particular photography and writing – have remained creative constants. I don’t go anywhere scenic without trusty camera – including biting snow squalls off Lake Ontario at Sandbanks/Outlet Park!
