The Lethbridge branch of the Alberta Registered Music Teachers’ Association was formed in 1942 and is part of a Canada-wide federation of music teachers encompassing ten provinces and the Yukon, with approximately 3,500 members. To be a member of the Association, teachers must hold a degree or diploma from a recognized university or conservatory or meet the necessary qualifications set down by the registering province. This ensures a high level of training and a commitment to professionalism. The aim of our organization is to provide leadership in private music education in our community by encouraging and offering the highest calibre of music education possible and by promoting high standards of music in our community. Currently the Lethbridge branch has more than 20 members from Lethbridge and the surrounding area who give lessons in piano, theory, pedagogy, strings, voice, woodwinds, organ, trombone, tuba, euphonium, and ear training. Our branch presents a number of student recitals each year and organizes workshops and master classes for students and teachers in the Lethbridge area. In addition, our branch presents $1500 in annual awards for first-class honors marks in practical and theory exams and sponsors a number of Lethbridge and District Music and Speech Arts Festival awards. We hold monthly meetings at which we organize events, share ideas and support each other in our teaching efforts.

  • Private Lessons

    Members of the Lethbridge Branch of the Alberta Registered Music Teachers Association offer private lessons. Information on individual teachers and their scope of instruction can be found on our website. Benefits of Study with a Registered Teacher: Assurance of qualified, knowledgeable instruction. All members of the Alberta Registered Music Teachers’ Association (ARMTA) have current police checks. Opportunities for performance at: Music Festivals, Examinations, Public Recitals, Studio Recitals, Master Classes, Canada Music Week Celebrations, National and Provincial Student Competitions. Opportunities for students to receive awards, both in practical and theoretical subjects. Opportunities for advanced students to develop applied and pedagogical knowledge.

  • Performances

    Each year our Branch organizes a number of recitals for students. These recitals are designed to give students a chance to share their music and gain valuable performance experience. Annual recitals include the following: November: Canada Music Week Recital during the 3rd week of November. Students are encouraged to perform works by Canadian composers. December: Christmas recital with a more relaxed format March: General recital designed to give students a chance to perform before the Lethbridge and District Music and Speech Arts Festival May: Final general recital for the year In addition, our Branch offers performance opportunities for adult students twice a year. These gatherings feature a less formal atmosphere and are designed to give adults a chance to share their music and gain valuable performance experience in an encouraging environment.
