Grindstone Theatre Society is an Edmonton-based non-profit arts organization founded in 2011, dedicated to creating professional opportunities for emerging and local artists through high-quality, impactful live performance, education, and community engagement. Guided by values of creativity, inclusivity, and collaboration, Grindstone operates the Grindstone Comedy Theatre & Bistro, Grindstone Theatre School, and The Orange Hub Theatres. Through year-round productions, festivals, workshops, and classes for adults and youth, we provide accessible spaces for artists to create, train, perform, and connect while strengthening Edmonton’s arts and cultural community.

    Grindstone Theatre Society presents live performances through MainStage productions, the Grindstone Comedy Festival, Fringe programming, weekly improv and comedy shows, and independent productions by external artists in our subsidized venues. Our programming supports artists while providing accessible live arts experiences for the community.

  • Group Classes

    Through the Grindstone Theatre School, Grindstone Theatre Society offers year-round group classes across four seasonal terms for adults and youth. Programs focus on theatre, improv, acting, musical theatre, clown, comedy, and other performance-based disciplines, providing accessible training for participants of all experience levels.

  • Camps

    Through the Grindstone Theatre School, Grindstone Theatre Society offers youth camps for ages 5–17 that provide creative training in theatre, improv, acting, musical theatre, clown, and performance-based arts. Our camps create an engaging, inclusive environment where young participants build confidence, develop skills, collaborate, and showcase their creativity.

    Grindstone Theatre Society offers workshops throughout the year in partnership with professional artists and instructors across diverse disciplines. Ranging from introductory to specialized training, these workshops explore performance, creative process, writing, technique, and artistic development, providing accessible learning opportunities for artists at various stages of their journey.

  • Outreach Programs

    Grindstone Theatre Society delivers outreach programs through subsidized workshops, performances, and classes in partnership with community organizations such as Fruit Loop. We work to reduce barriers to arts access by adapting programming to meet the affordability, accessibility, and unique needs of specific groups, creating inclusive opportunities for participation and creative expression.
