Awakening the Sleeping Giant: Surveying the Field of Teaching Artistry

Event Date and Time:

Online Event:
Yes

The field of teaching artistry is a sleeping giant—that is beginning to awaken. In this webinar you will learn about the current state of the field (in transition!) and the potential of teaching artistry for Canadian arts, communities, and schools. You will also find out what teaching artistry actually is, what its foundational skills are, and why it is becoming a global community.

The field of teaching artistry is underdeveloped—there is still not a good network of connection or support. There are few good pathways into the profession and few established ways to build a stable career in it.  However, the positive side of that reality is that it is responsive to individuals who step up to make a difference, and artists who have the impulse to work with young people and communities can find their way. After the disruptions of the pandemic, the field is reframing itself, and now is the time that new energy can make a difference.

You will come away from this session with a feel for the breadth of teaching artist practice, and quite possibly an inspiration for the part of the growing field you are eager to join. You will discover things you already know and love that are the basis of good practice, and the ready ground for growth.
