Do you feel two decades of digital innovation have been squeezed into the last year or so? In a world where audiences attend concerts without leaving their living rooms, orchestras across the country are navigating steep learning curves, discovering ways to be flexible and adaptable, and managing bold experimentation… often with everyone creating and producing the concerts from their living rooms too.

Now, over a year in, we’re asking ourselves: What happened? What does it mean? And what comes next?

Orchestras Canada is researching these very questions, and we’d love for you to join us as we share what we are hearing in The Future of the Digital Orchestra: Impact and Sustainability.

In this series of three forums we will explore the impact and future of orchestras’ digital activities in three key areas:

  1. Audiences: Are digital patrons here to stay? Maintaining core loyalty and reaching new audiences. May 21st, 12:00-1:30pm EST
  2. Finances: What approaches are being tried today? Examples of experiments that are working towards sustainability. May 28th, 12:00-1:30pm EST
  3. Pride of Work: How do great digital artistic projects happen? Leadership and engagement in work to be proud of. June 4th, 12:00-1:30 pm EST

Through these forums, you will learn from your orchestral colleagues and hear how their approaches and experiences might help you make informed decisions about your orchestra’s digital future.

Attendees from all areas of your orchestra are welcome: whether you are a musician, administrator, volunteer, or supporter, we hope all three sessions will be of value. Registration is free to OC members. For non-members, the cost is $22.60 per forum. If you choose to participate in the 3 forums, you will benefit from a discount price of $56.50 for three forums.

The Future of the Digital Orchestra: Impact and Sustainability is presented with the generous support of the Canada Council for the Arts Digital Strategy Fund. Thank you to our oversight committee partners: Bernard LeBlanc from the Canadian Federation of Musicians, Robert Fraser from the Organization of Canadian Symphony Musicians, Jovanny Savoie from Conseil québécois de la musique, Tim Crouch from Soundstreams / Chair of OC’s Digital Committee, and Tanya Derksen from Philadelphia Orchestra / Board Member at OC. This project is managed by The Arts Firm.
