Making Space for the Arts:

Innovative Approaches to Access and Ownership

Join us on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, for the next edition of the Speaker Series.

In this national conversation moderated by The Globe and Mail’s  Josh O’Kane , we’ll explore creative solutions emerging in response to the arts sector’s real estate challenges.

As real estate pressures grow, arts organizations are developing innovative models to secure space through community-driven strategies, collaboration, and new approaches to ownership. Building on insights from O’Kane’s January 2025 article in The Globe and Mail, this webinar will spotlight three organizations leading innovative approaches:

Brian McBay, Executive Director of Vancouver’s 221A, on establishing a cultural land trust to acquire properties and ensure long-term affordability for creative use.

Hannah Wood, Outreach and Sales Lead at Halifax’s RadStorm, on using community bonds to purchase their building and secure long-term stability.

Ravi Jain, Founder and Co-Artistic Director of Why Not Theatre, on the Space Project, which matches performing artists with underused venues to expand access and reduce costs.
