SOCAN Foundation will strive to expand an environment where Canadian music and its creation are encouraged, and to ensure the public has an enhanced understanding of the value of music.

SOCAN Foundation provides grants for Canadian music creators and publishers working to promote appreciation for Canadian music in today’s society. Our grants support the spread of our music both within Canada and abroad, ensuring our voices are heard all over the world and in our own back yards.

How Are Grant Applications Reviewed?
Grant applications are screened by the SOCAN Foundation Manager, then submitted to special committees from the board of directors for review. Those committees make recommendations to the full board of directors, which offers final approval at quarterly board meetings generally held in March, June, September and November. Decisions by the board of directors are final.

How Are Awards Applications Reviewed?
SOCAN Foundation hires renowned Canadian composers to serve as jury members, who meet over several days to review applications submitted for the SOCAN Foundation Awards for Young Composers, Emerging Audio-visual Composers (Sponsored by RBC), and Young Canadian Songwriters (Sponsored by SiriusXM). Juries for each competition are balanced to ensure representation from the West, Central/East and Quebec regions. Each jury comprises three members, who report their results in meetings with the SOCAN Foundation manager.
Applications for the SOCAN Foundation Awards for Young Composers are reviewed anonymously. Applications for the SOCAN Foundation Awards for Emerging Audio-Visual Composers (Sponsored by RBC) and for Young Canadian Songwriters (Sponsored by SiriusXM) are not reviewed anonymously.
