The purpose of Quinte Arts Council’s arts education, awards and bursaries program is to:

  • provide quality visual and performing arts training in the classroom or at local schools in the  Quinte Area to students grades K to 12
  • educate students about other cultures
  • encourage post- secondary education in an arts field
  • recognize those in our community who have made a significant contribution to arts and culture

Arts Education Bursaries

Educators and/or artists submit applications to request funding for artist fees to provide instruction on visual or performing arts activities that support the Ontario curriculum.  Students have the opportunity to be educated by professional artists and groups, develop their talents, and learn school subjects in an interactive, inspirational and entertaining way.

All applications for these projects are reviewed and funds or awards approved by Quinte Arts Council’s Arts Education, Awards and Bursaries Committee. 

Arts Education Bursary for the Performing Arts – deadline January 31

The Quinte Arts Council’s Arts Education Support Program was established by the council’s Arts and Education Committee in 2002 to be used to help subsidize arts programming in Quinte schools. Up to four program supports of $250 each are given (we reserve the right to grant 2 supports at $500, 4 at $250 or 3 at $300) and are for artist fees only. In order to be eligible the project must:

  • involve a professional artist or group
  • involve performing arts activities, i.e. music, storytelling, drama, theatre, dance, puppetry, creative movement
  • support the Ontario curriculum
  • have defined starting and completion dates, set objectives, a project budget and a follow-up plan for evaluations and a report
  • involve a school or classroom of students within the Quinte region, grades K to 12
  • take place from March to June

Eugene Lang Memorial Bursary Application – deadline January 31

In memory of Eugene Lang (1920-2000) and to honour his love for and dedication to classical music in the Quinte region, the Eugene Lang Memorial Fund was established by Mr. Lang’s family to encourage and promote classical music education projects in schools in Hastings and Prince Edward Counties. Available to Quinte Arts Council members and member groups, an award, based on the interest accumulated in the fund during the preceding year, will be presented annually in March. Projects such as live performances, lectures, workshops, master classes, etc. will qualify.

Eligible projects will meet the following criteria:

  • involve classical music including performances, workshops or other projects
  • have defined starting and completion dates, set objectives, a project budget and a follow-up plan for evaluations and a report
  • involve a school and/or classroom of students within Hastings and Prince Edward counties
  • the applicant must be a QAC individual or group member (schools/classrooms do not have to be QAC members to apply)

Deadline for application: January 31 of each year Award Presentation: March of the same year 
You must be a QAC member to apply (however, schools/classrooms do not have to be a QAC member to apply).

Quinte Arts Council Student Arts Bursary – deadline April 29

Each spring the Quinte Arts Council awards two $500 bursaries to students graduating from secondary schools in Hastings and Prince Edward Counties and proceeding to further education in the arts, at a university or college in Canada, with the aim of pursuing a career in the arts. Priority will be given to students who have demonstrated an active involvement in the arts both within their secondary school and the wider community. The following areas will also be considered in making the award: artistic achievement and innovativeness, extracurricular activities (both volunteer and in the workplace), demonstrated level of commitment, determination or focus on the chosen field of interest, quality and persuasiveness of the submitted essay, and degree of support in teachers’ letters. Recipients will be notified before the end of June, and the presentation will be made at the school graduation ceremonies by a representative of the QAC.

DEADLINE for APPLICATION:  April 29 of each calendar year.

Hugh P. ONeil Student Arts Bursary – deadline April 29

Eligibility: Each spring Hugh O’Neil, in conjunction with the Quinte Arts Council, awards two $500 bursaries to students graduating from secondary schools in the Quinte Riding (as it existed in 1995). Students must be proceeding to further education in the arts, at a post-secondary school in Canada, with the aim of pursuing a career in the arts. One bursary will be given to students graduating from one of the following Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board schools (Nicholson Catholic College, St. Theresa’s or St. Paul’s) and one bursary will be given to students graduating from one of the following Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board schools (Centennial, Eastside, Bayside or Trenton).

Criteria: Priority will be given to students who have demonstrated superior academic achievement, and an active involvement in the arts both within their secondary school and the wider community. In addition, the following areas will also be considered in making the award: artistic achievement and innovativeness, extracurricular activities (both volunteer and in the workplace), demonstrated level of commitment, determination or focus on the chosen field of interest, and degree of support in teacher support letters. Recipients will be notified before the end of June, and the presentation will be made at the school graduation ceremonies by a representative of Mr. O’Neil’s family.

Susan Richardson Bursary – deadline May 14

This bursary is for students graduating from secondary schools in Hastings and Prince Edward Counties and proceeding to further education in music, at a university or college in Canada, with the aim of pursuing a professional career in music.

Priority will be given to students who have demonstrated an active involvement in the arts both within their secondary school and the wider community. The following areas will also be considered in making the award: artistic achievement, extracurricular activities (both volunteer and in the workplace), demonstrated level of commitment, determination or focus, quality and persuasiveness of the submitted essay, and degree of support in teachers’ letters.
