Step inside the ancient tale of the sea-monster Nian (年) at #IntoTheLight to gain a deeper understanding of why we still celebrate these rituals and customs today. You will also get the opportunity to create your own paper lantern - a fun activity for both children and adults alike.

For over a decade we have supported LGBTQ2S+ folx to take their stories from the private to the public and then create a performance. We are once again bringing these stories into the light. Join us at the Eighty Eight Brewing Co. from 7-9 PMish on December 12th. We will be showcasing the funny, poignant and personal stories of 6 folx who are trying to make their way in the world as queer. Admission is free and everyone gets a $5 bar tab to enjoy whatever refreshments they like.

The first-ever Yukon Prize for Visual Arts Gala is on Saturday November 20th. Can’t make it to the Yukon? Anyone world-wide can tune in to the free live stream that will include a performance by popular Yukon-born musician and the reveal of the winner.

The aims of Canada Music Week® are to bring to the attention of the public, through various means, the importance of Canadian music; to support composers and performers of Canadian music; to introduce contemporary music to young Canadians and stimulate a keener appreciation and understanding of this music; and to encourage music educators to widen their knowledge and experience of Canadian works.

The Humber School for Writers returns to the Toronto International Festival of Authors with a series of daily professional writing masterclasses led by its renowned faculty members and special guests, including Omar El Akkad, Jordan Tannahill, Sheila Heti and more. Read for the Cure is an inspiring, annual literary event series, presented by Penguin Random House Canada. This year’s conversations will connect book lovers across the country with bestselling authors in support of the Environment-Cancer Fund at the Cancer Research Society. As part of BC Culture Days 2021, this workshop will introduce participants to creating a pouch made of leather or fabric with basic beadwork. The focus will be building practical skills of beading and sewing. Supplies will be available but feel free to bring your own to add your own sense of flair to your project.

While participants are encouraged to create a leather pouch for themself or a loved one, the group will be engaging in storytelling as a means to reflect on the meaning of medicine pouches and what are things they would like to carry with them in their day-to-day lives.

“Street art” is the theme of Arts Alive! 2021, bringing together musicians, artists and artisans. On Friday, September 17, the festival will host two concerts during which a Quebec City painter will create a painting inspired by the music. The painting will be officially revealed the following day.
