Orpheus gives Artistic Director Robert Cooper a well-deserved break after 15 years with the Choir by offering YOU the opportunity to choose the program for our season closer. This unprecedented concert will feature works selected by YOU through online voting, and the most popular selections will be revealed in a live countdown at the concert. A ground-breaking celebration of Canadian artistry, featuring an array of choral works by female composers, and the premiere of four commissioned Canadian works by Christine Donkin, Anika-France Forget, Katerina Gimon, and Tawnie Olson. Orpheus partners with Diaspora Dialogues in a unique mentoring of acclaimed female composers and poets with emerging female artists to highlight the very best of established and undiscovered Canadian talent. This evening honours the woman’s expressive and singular perspective in song!

The 5th Annual Soul Slam is a showcase of local singers, which features them singing their original songs for a chance at winning $1000. The audience is the judge, as each singer leaves it all on the stage.

When Brothers Speak is Canada's largest and longest running showcase of Black, male, Spoken Word artists. Now in its 20th year, When Brothers Speak features artists from across North America, sharing their take on the Black experience. Curated by Dwayne Morgan, the 2018 edition of When Brothers Speak will feature performances from Eddie Lartey (Hamilton), Joel Francois (New York City), Luke Reece (Toronto), Andrew Tyree (Los Angeles), and Rudy Francisco (San Diego). DMXXV, celebrates Spoken Word artist, Dwayne Morgan's quarter century on stage. The author of ten poetry collections and eight albums, Morgan has performed in eighteen countries internationally, and was inducted to the Scarborough Walk of Fame for his commitment to the arts in 2013.

On October 14th, Morgan will hit the Lula Lounge stage, sharing poems that span the first twenty-five years of his career.

Join us for Esprit Orchestra's 2018-2019 season opener, For Orbiting Spheres, on October 24, 2018 in the acoustically acclaimed Koerner Hall at 8pm. An engaging pre-concert chat hosted by Juno award winning Canadian composer Alexina Louie precedes the concert at 7:15; access to the chat included with ticket purchase.

Room 217 Foundation is a social enterprise dedicated to caring through music. Room 217’s music care approach includes purposefully designed music care resources for vulnerable populations, education for caregivers who wish to integrate music into care practice, and a framework that will help health care organizations optimize music for person centered care.
